Watering 101
When rainfall is scarce, you may need to take matters into your own hands and we’re here to help.
Please note, these recommendations are here to serve as a general guide, each yard is unique and may require customized care.
BEFORE WATERING
If you’ve received significant rainfall over the past week you shouldn’t need to water.
Check the soil 3-4 inches below the surface. If dry, continue to our recommendations below. If soil is moist you shouldn’t need to water.
For plants planted within the last two years, during times of high heat/drought:
Hand watering
Water around base of plant with a shower-wand for 1-2 minutes per plant, 3x per week. Some plants may need watering daily during hot/dry conditions.
Sprinkler watering
Water entire bed with sprinkler for 60-90 minutes, 3x per week. Some plants may need watering daily during hot/dry conditions.
Reminder- mature plants are more deeply rooted than young plants but even these will need supplemental watering during times of hot/dry conditions. Setting a sprinkler out and watering deeply 1X per week is recommended.
For Newly Seeded Lawns:
With sprinkler:

Weeks 1-3: Water yard for 10 minutes every day

Weeks 3-6: Water yard for 20-30 minutes, 2X/week

Weeks 6+: Water yard as needed during high heat/drought for 60-90 minutes, 1X/week
For Newly Sodded Lawns:
With sprinkler:

Weeks 1-3: Water sod for 5-10 minutes, 2X/day

Weeks 3-6: Water sod for 20-30 minutes, 2X/week

Weeks 6+: Water yard as needed during high heat/drought for 60-90 minutes, 1X/week
